After nearly 2 years of editing, Beyond The Horizon is finally released to the world. Just a few days ago we had our final version locked down, mixed, graded, reviewed, slightly changed, and viewed again…

The overriding emotion is one of sheer relief. I’ve been working hard, earning money, to get this incredible story across the line. I’m so happy with the result. The story itself ebbs and flows, and winds it way around your mind. It’s emotional, that’s for sure.

Crafted spectacularly by Simon Cross, whose input and flare has been so valuable right from the initial spark of the idea, and who I shared many late nights working with to make this a reality.

Gary Moore who worked on the mix, and the crew onsite – Jay, Jono, Joseph, Sioeli who all worked tirelessly on the shoot and really set the edit up for success.

The people on the island of Tongatapu, Sal, Deb, Conchitta, Martin, The Campbells, The Parquettes, Jason and all at the Tanoa Hotel... and everyone at TAWS for being so welcoming.

Ray, Kim & Phil who came out to Tonga for the shoot to re-live their time on the island. They didn’t have to open up about their personal journeys to a stranger like me, but believed in the process for which I’m forever grateful.

And of course, Zoe. She believed in the idea when it would have been so easy to say ‘no’, and having lived the reality of it, was the spearhead at every phase of production.

I spoke about dealing in the currency of kindness throughout this 3-year production. I think that’s the most valuable exchange any two people can make. That’s the biggest lesson I’ve personally taken away from all of this.

If ever there was an example of a team effort, then this really is it.

On a really personal note (sorry) I need to pay homage to my wife Hazel. She doesn't work in this industry, but has lived and breathed every moment of my career. We've made so many sacrifices to get this documentary out to the world, and I'm beyond grateful.

So on to the next phase. In a way this now feels like a whole new beginning. A new lease of life. Our independant film has left the nest and spread its wings. I wish it safe travels.
